MAI TE TĪMATA / ORIGIN
The Kōkōhīnai Papakāinga Trust land originated from meetings during the 1960’s between the original Kōkōhīnau land owners to amalgamate their lands under seperate title. Situated at 331 TeTeko Road Whakatane the land consisted of 26 acres which also included the Kōkōhīnau marae and the urupa / cemetery. In the Māori Land Court hearing on 18th November 1969 at Rotorua. Judge Kenneth Gillanders Scott vested 20 acres of the Kōkōhīnau land as the first Kōkōhīnau Papakāinga land and ordered Eruera Manuera of TeTeko, Retired, Tame Waitere of TeTeko Farmer and Dick Hunia of TeTeko, Storekeeper as the inaugural trustees to manage the land as an Ahu Whenua Trust
